St Martin's Cultural Day

Greetings!

Here we are, having made it to the halfway point of the school year.

At this time of the year we stop and take notice of the progress our children have made as learners during the first semester. Many of you would have met with your child’s teacher to talk about learning plans, support, or just to touch base with how they are going. You may have had a phone call informing you that your child has not yet reached the standard they need to be for their year level. You may just be waiting in eager anticipation for your child’s report. Your child’s teacher is in the final throws of completing their Semester 1 Report which you will receive next week. One of the great privileges of being in leadership in a school is that you get to read at least half of the students’ reports (Christine and I read and sign half each). We are Blessed with the staff we have here at St. Martin’s. They are committed to seeing each student flourish as a learner and they work hard to ensure that this happens. I appreciate the opportunity of reading the story of the student’s educational journey thus far, this year. When you read your child’s report, I encourage you to focus on their achievements and effort, rather than the areas they need further work in. Your child’s teacher will attend to this next term and with your support and the commitment of the student, will endeavour to support them to make good progress.

SAPSASA DISTRICT FOOTBALL TEAM

Congratulations Jesse, Alex, Mitchell (Year 6) who were selected for the SAPSASA District Football Team. They participated at the State Carnival this week. Well done!

Thank you to our wonderful St Martin's Community who have and are continuing to support our St Martin's "Go Green Challenge Team" in the Wonder Recycling Rewards program, by collecting your empty bread bags and tags (any brand) and bringing them to school.   

We only have until the end of term before our challenge is finished.  Please keep those empty bread bags and tags coming in!

Catholic Social Teaching - What have we been learning about in our classes this term? 

In Reception, we have been focusing on Stewardship and looking at the Creation story and how we are part of God’s plan to look after the Earth.  During prayer we have being singing ‘The Wonders I See’ and, ‘In the Beginning’.  Children have also been composing their own prayers, both verbal and written about being thankful for God’s creation.

St Martin's Chicken Coop

At St Martins we have a chicken coop with 7 chickens. They are all treasured and cared for and are all unique in their own way. We name them all with the fulsomeness of our hearts. Their names are Cherry, Sunflower, Sunny, Orange, Ginger, Sprite and Stormy. They are all named based on their looks and personalities. We have areas for them to roam around and we have two “coops” for them to shelter at when it is cold or when it is raining. The largest one is the primary coop and the smaller one is just for some shelter. When it is the end of the day, we make sure to “lock” them up into the primary coop to ensure that nothing hurts them during the night. We also have a large feeder which we fill often with pellets which are good for them. We also make sure to have a lot of water containers around for them to drink from. At lunch we also give them the scraps of the lunch orders which is an assortment of lettuce, tomatoes, bread, and carrots. During recess and lunch times, students can come into the chicken coop to pat the chickens and hang out with them. It is also a place to calm down when you are sad or when you just want a friend to hang out together.

We would  like to give a big thank you to Tony and Marks (Newton) and LaManna Bananas (Pooraka) for donating the delicious fruit for Sacred Heart Feast day on Friday 11th June. St Martin’s students and staff, along with the visiting students and staff from OLSH College enjoyed sharing fruit together. Thank you to our Uniform Shop manager, Lilly Del Medico for liaising with these businesses to organise their generous fruit donations for the celebration.

School Photo Day

School Photo Day is on TUESDAY AUGUST 10th.  Please avoid making any appointments for your child on this day.  All students will be required to wear their full winter uniform.
